Batik Fabric Dyeing
Batik is a dyeing technique using wax resist. The term is also used to describe patterned textiles created with that technique. Batik is made by drawing or stamping wax on a cloth to prevent colour absorption during the dyeing process. This creates a patterned negative when the wax is removed from the dyed cloth.
Batik has a long history in African tradition and was been passed on from generation to generation. Every region has created it’s own unique styles from deeply rooted heritage and geometric pattern and colors. Each pattern has a sacred meaning and draws inspiration from nature and history. Common motifs include leaves, flowers, and animals, each carrying specific meanings like purity, beauty, or strength.
Batik originates from to Indonesia. The textile art is still popular in Africa and Asia. Both styles are often used in fashion, home décor, and crafts.
